Kirtan by Candlelight

Join us for a candlelit evening of heart-opening chanting. All are welcome – whether you are familiar with kirtan or will be experiencing it for the first time. We invite you to share in this gentle and uplifting collective practice.
Kirtan is a shared practice, and there will be opportunities for participants to offer a chant, guided by the flow of the evening.
Kirtan by Candlelight is a bi-weekly event happening every other Tuesday.

What is kirtan?
Kirtan is a form of chanting rooted in the Bhakti Yoga tradition of India, where sacred mantras are sung in a simple call-and-response style. Through music, rhythm and repetition, kirtan helps quiet the mind, open the heart and create a sense of connection.
Facilitator: Ramdas has been involved with the Sivananda tradition for several years, teaching yoga, singing kirtan, and participating in satsang. Ever since hearing kirtan for the first time, he has felt connected to its uplifting vibration. He hopes to share what he has learned and help others experience the benefits of chanting.

Kirtan and Chai with Narada

Join us for a warm and heart-opening afternoon of devotional chanting and tea with our community and Narada. Relax, connect, and share in the joy of sacred music together. Everyone is welcome, whether you would like to chant, listen, or simply be present in the circle.
Musician: Narada (Timmy Martin Sarker) is a Bangladeshi-Canadian vocalist and guitarist. His healing music infuses ancient Sanskrit chanting into contemporary rhythms, creating a unique brand of conscious music that uplifts and inspires. Narada’s music closely follows the Kirtan genre, allowing the audience to experience a deep state of relaxation and rejuvenation by connecting with his music.
Narada is heavily influenced and inspired by classical Indian music and the Eastern philosophy of meditation. He creates soulful, vibrant musical pieces by incorporating the knowledge acquired from these age-old traditions. Before the pandemic, Narada extensively travelled and performed in various cities in Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Saint John’s) and internationally (U.S.A., India, Colombia) to hone his skills and connect with his audience.
Over the past three years, Narada has released 12 soundtracks under the album Chants of Ecstasy. He is currently working on his next album, collaborating with musicians across the globe. Narada has also been conducting concerts for Canadian and international audiences.

Sun Salutation Workshop

Join us for a practice-based workshop on Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). The sequence will be broken down step by step so students can understand the structure of this classical practice. You will learn the correct form for each posture, how to transition smoothly between movements, and how to adapt the sequence with modifications appropriate to your level. Whether you are new to yoga or looking to refine your flow, this workshop will help you build strength, stamina, and improve alignment.
The workshop will also examine the different phases of the cycle and how they affect the body. Students will observe how the sequence strengthens and supports the muscular and skeletal systems, stimulates the cardiovascular system through rhythmic repetition, and maintains steady energy through breath-led movement.
Beyond learning the mechanics of the sequence, we will thake a holistic apraoch to Sun Salutation as an integrated practice that connects body, energy and the mind.. Practiced with awareness, it becomes not only a physical exercise but also a moving meditation practice.

Cognitive Science program where he currently teaches courses on the introduction to Cognitive Science, and the Cognitive Science of
consciousness wherein he emphasizes 4E (embodied, embedded, enacted, and extended) models of cognition and consciousness . In
addition, he taught a course in the Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health program on Buddhism and Cognitive Science for fifteen years.
He is the director of the Consciousness and the Wisdom Studies Laboratory. He has won and been nominated for several teaching
awards including the 2001 Students’ Administrative Council and Association of Part-time Undergraduate Students Teaching Award

Yoga for Fascia Health with Padmini

Fascia is the connective tissue that provides support and structure throughout the body. It directly
influences:
-flexibility
-mobility
-range of motion
-posture
-ease and depth of breathing
-circulation
-the flow of vital energy (prana)
This workshop will nourish and nurture the fascia. It consists of a brief discussion of fascia, and a yoga practice of breathing exercises, long-held meditative postures, and a short meditation. The workshop will also provide the extra benefits of improved body awareness, physical and mental relaxation, stress
reduction, improved mental clarity, and improved concentration.
Some yoga experience would be very helpful.
Teacher: Padmini has been practicing and teaching yoga for many years and holds teacher certifications in hatha yoga, yin yoga, meditation, chair yoga, and prenatal yoga. She is committed to inspiring and helping people attain and maintain health, well-being, and inner peace.
